Busy week – lots to talk about … The stack is getting bigger…so much I want to get to …
Like an interesting situation we had a couple of weeks back involving the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand – that I think illustrates how groups, associations institutes – who supposedly exist to uphold their industry ethics, but end up twisting their codes to use as ‘gag orders’ – trying to stop the truth being spoken by members – protecting their own interests – not the publics … that’ll be an interesting discussion.
There’s also the post I came across from a well know real estate training guru asking agents “What their business model looks like?” Then when you dig deeper – the suggested path – is not a business model at all – it’s a prospecting plan. I’d like to share some thoughts on that and outline what our business model looks like, which by the way includes absolutely no typical prospecting. That discussion may need to be covered over several episodes…
Then there’s all the talk of so called “Disruption” in the real estate industry. There’s no doubt the industry is being attached from all sides at the moment. We are seeing the rise of online agents like Purplebricks hitting Australia and even here in New Zealand there are new players popping up all over the place – most of them discount / low commission or fixed fee operators … but are they actually disrupting? I definitely want to weigh in on that topic …
And it sounds like some of you are wanting me to get on with talking about how our fee structure works – exactly how it puts more profit in our clients pockets but at the same time is also better for us. That seems to be what many want to get their hands on. And yes I promise I’ll get to that – but first I believe it’s important to lay some more foundations.
Because if you think that what we are doing here is just about how our fees work. If you think that alone will change the industry, position you as an authority, raise the level trust your clients have in you, create raving fans that send their friends and family to you, creating vitality – enabling you to experience growth without having to chase, harass and hound people for business – then sorry – you are looking for the magic bullet – the quick easy fix to all your problems …
Well let me tell you right here and now – the magic bullet does not exist. The solution is a combination of many things – and it all starts with the shift in thinking, it starts with the change in culture. Unless you get your head around that – there is no point in discussing the rest.
So Today I want to continue pulling the traditional way of doing things apart – expose some truths. But remember – don’t take this personally – I’m not having a go at you as an individual – I’m having a go at how our traditional industry works – the commission only model and sales culture – how it teaches us to think, what it requires us to do, and how it hurts our clients…
I am encouraging you to question if it’s the path you want to continue down. If it really resonates with your character – is it building yourself a business you are proud to be a part of?
Specifically today I going to focus on propaganda pitched to consumers around Advertising and Buyers.
