There’s a knock at your door…
“Hi, I’m Pete from Pete’s Plumbing Services… I’m in your neighbourhood today – and was just wondering if you needed any plumbing work done?”
Now normally you you’d send door Knockers packing with a polite “No thanks” – but in a stroke of luck, you just happen to have a blocked drain you had dent got around to getting fixed … so you engage him to fix it on the spot. It takes him about one hour to get the job done… then goes on his merry way.
A week later you receive an invoice for plumbing services totalling five hours’ work.
In confusion you call the plumber to ask what the extra four hours were charged for?
“Well I had to knock on doors for three hours before I found you. Plus, I did an hour’s work for your neighbour last month who didn’t pay me – so I added that to your bill also.”
What the… ?
I doubt you would accept that from your plumber – or any other professional service provider.
Yet this is exactly what is happening with the traditional real estate model…
